Omadino Community under attack by unknown Gunmen, indigenes on disarray

Report reaching Warri Voice Newspaper  says unknown gunmen had attacked the oil-rich Omadino Community of Warri South Local Government Area in Delta State, allegedly killing one youth and went away with another.

Though the veracity of the speculation could not be ascertained as at the time of this report, it was alleged that the gunmen came through the river with a boat, shot sporadically, before carrying out the attack.

Warri Voice Newspaper attempt to reach out to Omadino Leaders for further details have not been successful as at Press time.

Being Text Of A Joint Presser Held Saturday April 17, 2021 By The Presidents Of UYC And INYC On The Intrigues Surrounding The Non - Operation Of Osubi Airstrip In Delta State.

Gentlemen of the Press

BEING TEXT OF A JOINT PRESSER HELD SATURDAY APRIL 17, 2021 BY THE PRESIDENTS OF URHOBO YOUTH COUNCIL, UYC AND ITSEKIRI NATIONAL YOUTHS COUNCIL, INYC, ON THE INTRIGUES SURROUNDING THE NON-OPERATION OF OSUBI AIRSTRIP IN OKPE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF DELTA STATE

Gentlemen of the Press

We are indeed saddened that despite statements credited to the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika last month, announcing approval for the reopening of Osubi Airstrip, near Warri in Delta State for daylight operations, there is nothing concrete to suggest that the purported announcement would be backed by action. In-fact, the unfolding intrigues remind us of the festering face-off between aviation service providers and the management of Osubi Airstrip.

We want to recall with regret, the letter by the Federal Government to all the aviation parastatals, terminating the contract of Shoreline Oil Services Limited, the operator of the Airstrip, citing alleged incompetence.

The facility has been a subject of controversy since it changed hands from the original owner, Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) to Shoreline in partnership with the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in 2015. Apparently unable to get the private operator to comply with the provisions of the service providers, some parastatals had written to the government to revoke the contract of Shoreline.
The Federal Ministry of Aviation Safety and Technical Policy Department, in a letter dated, February 7, 2020 and signed by its Director, Captain T. Alkali, directed the Director-General of Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Director-General Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET), to carry out the termination of Shoreline’s contract seamlessly.

SPDC opened the facility in 1999, to enhance offshore operations. With the dip in oil exploration over a period, the Airstrip was sold to Shoreline and NNPC in 2015.

NAMA, in October 2018, had alleged that Shoreline owed over N500million for air navigation services since 2015. Shoreline described NAMA’s claim as ‘frivolous charges’ and an attempt to keep extorting its management.

The thrust of this Press Briefing, is not to delve into the technical issues of ownership and alleged incompetence, but to draw the attention of our political representatives as well as the relevant government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, to the multi-million naira decaying Airstrip. This is because the rotting SPDC Office Complex, opposite Federal Government College, Warri, has continued to create sore memory in our hearts. We will no longer fold our arms and allow more critical socio-economic infrastructures, capable of creating wealth and thousands of jobs in our state to fallow, amid dwindling economic fortunes. Even the most illiterate person would acknowledge that the continous non - operation of flight and other commercial activities at the Osubi Airstrip, have negative economic consequences on people of Delta State and the revenue profile of the State Government.

Our Demand:

· We are calling on the Federal and Delta State Governments, the Deputy Senate President, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, the member representing Okpe, Sapele and Uvwie Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Efe Afe, the Member Representing Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chief Thomas Ereyitomi, other critical stakeholders and the relevant MDAs to immediately commence process for resumption of flight operations at the Osubi Airstrip!
* If urgent action is not taken to ensure that flight and other economic activities resume at the Osubi Airstrip within 14 days from today, we will not hesitate to ground major sources of revenue to the country, so as to drive home our legitimate demand.

President, UYC

PRESIDENT BUHARI GREETS ITSEKIRI NATION ON OLU-DESIGNATE, MOURNS DEPARTED MONARCH

President Muhammadu Buhari has send sincere greetings to the Itsekiri nation on the announcement of a new Olu of Warri, as pronounced by the Iyatsere of Warri Kingdom, Chief Johnson Amatserunleghe.

The President also condoles with the Itsekiris on the passage of the immediate past Olu, His Royal Majesty Ogiame Ikenwoli, which was equally formally announced during the Itsekiri National Assembly held recently at Ode- Itsekiri in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

President Buhari in his message, prayed that the Olu-designate, Prince Utieyinoritsetsola Emiko, will have a peaceful reign, signposted by massive development of Itsekiri land.

He counsels love and reconciliation after a pulsating race for the throne, noting that peradventure any dissension exists, such should be resolved through due process.

As the Itsekiri nation mourns their departed Olu for three months, President Buhari prays godly comfort for them, and a smooth ascendancy for the incoming monarch.

EASTER: OONI CALLS FOR YORUBA UNITY, RALLIES SOLIDARITY FOR ITSEKIRI PEOPLE

EASTER: OONI CALLS FOR YORUBA UNITY, RALLIES SOLIDARITY FOR ITSEKIRI PEOPLE
               Oni of Ife

The Arole Oduduwa & Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II has called for the unity of the Oodua descendants all over the world in solidarity with the Itsekiri people in the choice of the new Olu of Warri.

Speaking through his Director, Media & Public Affairs, Comrade Moses Olafare, the Ooni in his Easter message to the Nigerian Christians charging them to seek love and affection as demonstrated by Jesus Christ who sacrificed his life to save many souls, called on the Oodua people worldwide to find the lowest common factor that exists in their shared history, shared fear and shared aspirations.

He asked the Yoruba nation to solidarize with their own Itsekiri people who are in the process of choosing their new Monarch; Olu of Warri, saying the unity of Yoruba people will further strengthen peace and understanding in Nigeria.

He called on Yoruba people across Nigeria including those outside the South West States to pray and work together for peace and harmony of Nigeria.

"Irrespective of which state you find yourself either Akoko, Itsekiri in Delta, Okun, Oworro in Kogi, we are all children of Oduduwa bound by common ancestry" the Ooni said.

The Ooni said the Royalty in the House of Oduduwa is watching events in Itsekiri land and would appreciate if the people will continue to honour and respect the bound of oneness and common ancestry with the Yoruba people.

"The Itsekiri are part of the greater Oduduwa family. We cherish this great history. We shall do everything to defend and uphold it." the Ooni said.

"We are aware of the Itsekiri General Assembly coming up tomorrow Monday, April 04 in Warri. The Ooni sends his solidarity message to the Itsekiri people on this great occassion of their reunion. We wish them peace and harmony in their search for properity in their ancestral land. The Ooni is particularly keen to see the sustainability of the blood-bound relationship between the Itsekiri and the Yoruba, a relationship that has been tested and trusted over history. Generations of Yoruba and Itsekiri have the responsibility to uphold this important of our history"

There are indications that following protests resulting from the oil spill and the subsequent occupation of Chevron’s facilities, the company has concluded arrangements to carry out JIV, with a view to ascertain if the Oil Spill at the Abiteye and Utonana Fields, including the 16” Makaraba-Utonana-Abiteye Right of Way (ROW) was caused by its equipment failure or by a third party infraction.

The youth leaders; Mr. Ben Eburajolo, Prince Friday Etuwewe and Mr. Joshua Ghereje, in a press statement signed on behalf of youths of Deghele, Bateren and Omadino Communities respectively, advised Chevron Nigeria Limited to be mindful of the legitimate owners of the land where its operational facility is situated and not fall for any form of intimidation, to avoid being dragged into preventable round of litigation and operational crisis.

The statement which was made available to the Press on  Friday April 2, admonished the Delta State Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Prince Emmanuel Amgbaduba and other high ranking Political figures in Delta State Government, to adhere strictly to the dictates of their responsibilities toward all Deltans, particularly the rightful Host Communities of Chevron, so as not to be seen as promoting bigotry.

The Itsekiri Youth Leaders who praised the fair manner at which  the Delta State Government distributed relief materials to victims of the Oil Spill in the Chevron  Communities of Warri South-West and Warri South, cutting across the different ethnic divides as a rational approach, appealed to the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and other critical stakeholders to properly guide Chevron Nigeria Limited in its planned JIV.
