The National Association of Itsekiri Graduates(NAIG), an umbrella body of all Itsekiri graduates worldwide has condemned in totality the inhumane attitude of Chevron Nig. LTD towards the Itsekiri sons and daughters in their watch.

The renowned intellectual group in Warri Kingdom in a Press briefing held today Monday August 16, 2021 at their national Secretariat in Warri stated categorically that they can no longer turn a blind eye on the plights of their brothers and sisters in VTP5/OTP2 & VTP6 and has demanded the immediate reclassification of these workers by Chevron or face a shut down of all their Oil wells located in their Land.

President of the Noble Association, Comr.Ben Eyitemi Eburajolo, who gave the ultimatum on behalf of the Association, stated that the 146 members of NAIG in VTP5/OTP2 and VTP6 training programmes, should be employed as Staff of Chevron Nig.Ltd without any delay.

Comr. Eburajolo averred that, these Itsekiri workers in TP5/OTP2 & VTP6 were promised employment and asked to resign their former jobs by Management of the Oil Majors and that was the reason they left their high paying jobs to pass through the O&M training at Ogere, saying that, these workers have been found competent in their various locations and none has violated any of the company’s laid down rules, regulations or safety procedures and that on the job learning (OJL) has since been completed by both VTP5/OTP2 and VTP6 respectively.

The President who stated further that the time difference between the VTP4 who were reclassified January 1, 2015 and VTP5/OTP2 was just 6months and all the OTP2 were deplored to the field before the VTP4 to assist in the then acute personnel shortage in various offshore locations.

The Group who claimed  that a top official of Chevron has vowed that over his dead body, will the 146 Itsekiris be reclassified, accused some Itsekiri leaders of aiding and abetting CNL to use and dump their VTP5/OTP2 & VTP6 brothers and sisters for their selfish gains.

"Crude Oil price that they claimed was the reason for not reclassifying them has since risen and stable to above $70/bbl. Meanwhile, VTP4 was reclassified with a price below $40/pbl

"Our Revered Monarch, Ogiame Ikenwoli, the Olu of Warri, of blessed memory intervened on behalf of them in 2017 and CNL Management promised to do the needful the following year which was 2018, but till now, nothing has been done or heard from them

"Most frequently, the Management of Chevron assign much task to them than the CNL employees who receive higher Salaries than them and they are the least ranked and underpaid among CNL labour contract personnel", the Group averred.

The Group further demanded that: " It should be noted that their reclassification should be backdated to January 2016 and January 2017 for VTP5/OTP2 and VTP6 respectively; Resume Operation and Maintainance (O & M) training with employment in view immediately as enshrined in our Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with you; Community development in Oil Producing Areas should resume back immediately and all Itsekiri Host  Communities to CNL should be given Light and portable drinking water".
