SHELL BRIDGE IN AJUDAIBO NOW DEATH TRAP TO PEDESTRIANS, MOTORIST

The multi million naira bridge built by Shell Development Company linking Madangho with Ajudaibo and other communities is now a death trap to both pedestrians and motorists plying the  road as the rails supporting both edges of the bridge has fallen off thus making both pedestrians and motorists to cross the bridge with apparent fear of falling into the river.

The situation of the bridge is so bad that a tipper which fell-off into the river from the bridge since last year is still at the spot as the state of both the road and the bridge has made it impossible to bring in another heavy duty vehicle to remove the fallen tipper.

Also the road linking Ajudaibo Community with that of Ogidigben Community has almost been cut into two by waves from the Sea.

Speaking on the dangerous bridge and the road which people describe as the most dangerous bridge in Nigeria, the acting Olare-Aja of Ajudaibo Community, Pa. R.A.U. Edema appealed to Shell Development Company to take the responsibility of fixing the bridge and the road so that they can have access to their neighbouring communities.

An indegene of the community who pleaded anonymity said that he always fast and pray before crossing the bridge either by foot or in a vehicle as a result of fear.

He accused shell of not keeping to safety standard in their work environment because according to him, this is the road they use everyday to and fro.
