Mr. Okotie-Yesin declared: “Our ethnicity continues to be a major contributor to the material well being of the Nigerian nation through our God given resource of crude oil. However, as we are all witness to, the dividends of this God given resource has brought limited tangible benefits to our people. There has not been a correlation between the resources taken from our oil producing areas with development of the Niger-delta region in general. It is the shortfall in developmental indices in our homeland that has motivated members of our association almost from its inception, to embark on developmental projects including provision of portable water, transportation resources, scholarships and medical missions. Ugbajo Itsekiri USA Inc has been a leading and well acclaimed Itsekiri association in the diaspora”

Speaking on the conflict within the Ugbajo Itsekiri USA family, Mr. Okotie-Yesin averred, “We are all aware that there has been challenges within the body of Ugbajo Itsekiri USA Inc. in the past few years, leading to our current crossroad. However, I want to assure all of you that my Executive and I are exploring opportunities that will be beneficial of our people. We remain hopeful that God will guide us and pave the pathways of the future. Presently, this group, has worked on, and decided to adopt alternative dispute resolution method as our preferred method of conflict resolution. To that end, we have worked on conflict resolution amendments to our constitution and hope to ratify this important aspect of our constitution at this convention. We are also working on other areas of our constitution as part of an evolutionary process and will be presenting some amendment motions during this convention. We must be brave, and willing to chart a new course for the future. As the President, I believe and champion ideals of community, conviviality, charity, respect, unity and happiness. These ideologies are very important and speak to the foundational values of our association and will be the guiding principles in our future endeavors”.

Vice President of Ugbajo Itsekiri USA Inc., Mr. Lucky Mayor addressing participants

While speaking on some of the outstanding achievements of the group, Mr. Okotie-Yesin opined: “Although there will be many challenges ahead, I am encouraged by the energy, desire and commitment within our Ugbajo Itsekiri USA  family. We were able to have a medical mission in December 2021 in Warri, in collaboration with the Africa Cataract and Eye Foundation, where we provided cataract surgeries to 60 persons. We are also in the process of awarding scholarships to Itsekiri students in institutions of higher learning in Nigeria this year. We want to acknowledge folks who have made pledges in the past and appeal to them to redeem their pledges. We are also taking this opportunity to appeal to our well-wishers, and the body of Ugbajo Itsekiri USA Inc, to donate generously to our noble causes. Your generosity will enable us to continue our philanthropic works of service to the Iwere Nation. Your donations allow us to make a difference in the lives of our people in profound ways. I am encouraged by your enthusiasm, commitment and support shown by your presence here tonight. I give you all my solemn promise that my Executive and I will do all within our power to promote and propagate the goals and objectives of our beloved association. We will continue to call on all of you to partner with us and help move our association to the next level.”
