Group Slams Egbema kingdom over false statement against Dr. Uduaghan, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Projects better days for Delta Youths in Oborevwori's Administration

Group Slams Egbema kingdom over false statement against Dr. Uduaghan, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Projects better days for Delta Youths in Oborevwori's  Administration

Chairman of One Delta One Voice Pan Group” Comrade Aimuamwenosa Temisanren Owie, popularly called Comrade Nosa

In a Press briefing held on Sunday May 7, in Warri, Group under the auspices of One Delta One Voice Pan Group has called on all Deltans to shun the lies and defamatory statements by a faction of ijaws from Egbema kingdom against the detribalized Ex-Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan and the incoming Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori in a publication recently, stating that Sheriff Oborevwori's administration is people oriented and will favour Delta youths tremendously as lots of projects for the youths are already lined up awaiting May 29 inaugural ceremony.

Addressing newsmen, Chairman of One Delta One Voice Pan Group” Comrade Aimuamwenosa Temisanren Owie, popularly called Comrade Nosa declared: It is by divine providence that Itsekiri and her immediate Ijaw, Urhobo and Ilaje neighbors found themselves as eternal brothers in Delta state.

The Social Media Activist, Comr. Owie recognized the fact that the position of those behind the malicious publication does not reflect the entire Egbema kingdom who currently enjoys a good relationship with their Itsekiri neighbours in Warri North LGA where he hailed from.

Comrade Owie pointed out that, despite the Nigerian Political culture subtly enthrones a system where Majority Ethnic Groups uses their number to suppress and subjugate Minority Ethnic Groups, the Itsekiri people has been very magnanimous to their neighbours in giving them political relevance in Local Governments Areas where Itsekiris are the Majority.

For instance, there are Itsekiri communities scattered across Sapele LGA, Uvwie LGA and Ikpoba-Oka LGA in Edo State. Yet Itsekiris are not politically recognized in any of these Local Governments Areas. But come down to the three Warri Local Government Areas where Itsekiris are the Majority, the story is different. Over the years, the Itsekiri people has been very accommodating in giving recognition and Political Seats to their neighbours and the truth is out there for everyone to see.

Just to mention a few; in Warri South LGA, the current Deputy Chairman, Chief (Mrs.) Ann Divine Iniovosa and the Head of the Warri South LGA Legislative Arm, Hon. Sylvester Ijabor are both from Urhobo ethnic nationality.

In Warri North LGA, the Present Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Smart Yomi Asekutu is an Ijaw man from Egbema Kingdom. In Warri South-West LGA, the Immediate Past Council Chairman, Hon. George Ekpemupolo and the present House of Assembly Member Hon. Guwor Emomotimi Dennis are all Ijaws from Gbaramatu Kingdom. These are all documented facts that attest to the peaceful and accommodating nature of the Itsekiri people. I can make bold to say that there is no other Local Government Areas in Delta state you will see a replica or a semblance of such level of ethnic inclusion and political magnanimity like the Itsekiri people has done to their neighbours, even when we do not get the same treatment from other Local Government Areas where we are minority.

In the strength of these facts, I condemn in totality  the Publication by these elements among the Ijaws of Egbema kingdom and described it as a blackmail, divisive and inciting,” Comrade Owie averred.

The Social Media Activist also frowned at the false accusations levied in the publication against the former Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan who he described as a father of the People Democratic Party(PDP) in the State and an Elder-stateman whose administration as Governor was characterized by his detribalized approach to governance.

It is insulting and demeaning for our Egbema brothers to alleged that a former Governor of Delta state will have to stoop so low to lobby for the seat of a Commissioner for his daughter as exchange to support Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori political ambition. This is preposterous and insulting on the personality of the Immediate Past Governor.

For the sake of clarity, it is expedient to mention that the Political journey of Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori cannot be told without the name of the former Governor reflecting on different stages  of his journey thus far. Both within and outside politics, Hon. Oborevwori and Dr. Uduaghan have enjoyed a cordial father and son-like relationship  for decades, hence the malicious intent of our Egbema neighbours behind that blackmailing publication was uncalled for. But, they failed to realize that, the malicious publication by their kinsmen is not just against Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan whom they narrowed it on or the Itsekiri nation, but by extension, the Hon. Sheriff Oborevworiadministration. As it stands, by that publication which they accused the Governor-Elect of conniving with Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan to shortchange the Egbema people, they have invariably labelled themselves as the first Antagonist of Hon. Sheriff Oborevworis administration that has not even been inaugurated. I want to believe that those behind that publication were either misled by Political jobbers or did not think it through before making that ignoble publication,” Comrade Owie Opined.

In the same spectrum, Comr. Toju Akowe Apoh, a one time Warri South LGA House of Assembly contender and member of the Itsekiri National Youth Council Media Team, also called for calm and reiterated the fatherly status that His Excellency Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan currently occupy in the State.

Comr. Apoh described the Delta State Governor- Elect as a Pan Deltan that has been able to hold the allegiance of all Deltans across board and this was evident in the massive victory at the polls in the just concluded Gubernatorial elections.

Comr. Apoh advised that it is time for Deltans to consolidate on the victory by building stronger ethnic ties and bridges and not to make inciting or blackmailing publications.

We can stop Divestment of Oil Companies if we work together - ERA tells Oil Communities in Niger Delta

We can stop Divestment of Oil Companies if we work together - ERA tells Oil Communities in Niger Delta

From left to right: Mr. Jonah Gbemre, Coordinator, Krital Kare Foundation, Dr.(Mrs.) Misan Rupee,  Barrister Chima Williams, Executive Director of ERA & Chief Omafume Amurun

The Executive Director of Environmental Rights Action, ERA/Friends of the Earth, Barrister Chima William has called for collaboration with Oil Producing Communities in the Niger Delta Region to stop the divestment tactics of Oil Companies, stating that this can only be achieved, if they work together in unity.

Barrister Williams made this call in a one day Community-CSO Engagement programme tagged, "Motives Behind IOC's Divestments in Niger Delta." held on Saturday May 6, 2023 at Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Areas, Delta State.

Barrister Williams while stating some outstanding victories of ERA against some Oil Majors in Nigeria averred: “SPDC has paid 15million Euros as settlement to the people of Ogoni-land in the Niger Delta region, and some victims are already receiving their share of the money.

"We urged the people of the Niger Delta region to always speak with one voice, the activities of the IOC's operating in their domain are hurting, destroying their sources of livelihood and environment.

“Before now, divestment have been happening in this country, Oil companies have been selling parts of their assets to smaller or local companies in a very small scale. But, when the divestment of the Multi-nationals began to take another turn towards the end of the year 2021 and early 2022, we decided to conduct our own internal analysis, only to discover the lies of the Oil Majors, turning the concept of divestment into moving their Onshore activities into the deep sea where the community people and the government lack the capacity to monitor their operations while they continue to pollute and damage our ecosystem and leave us dry.

Barrister Chima Williams giving his speech

“As a result of the litigation that being pursued by community people, which have been very successful, starting from our own case, where a small community from the Niger Delta defeated Shell in their own country, a case which lasted for eighteen years. At the negotiating table, we were able to force Shell to put in place a liquidation system, the first of its kind in its operations, in the whole of West Africa to save the environment and the Peoples' sources of livelihood.

“We all can attest to the incapability of our local oil companies to handle the biggest pollution in our environment already created by the Multi-nationals.”

Barr .Williams advised the Communities and people of the Niger Delta region not to allow the International Oil Companies, IOC's live after polluting their environment as well as looting them dry under the guise of "Divestments", just as he urged them to always speak with one voice.

“My advice to communities hosting these oil facilities that these Oil Majors want to divest from is to articulate your GMOU with them,” Barr. Williams opined.

On his part, Chief Omafume Amurun, a Veteran Journalist who also spoke at the event averred that the IOC's employ divide and rule tactics to divide the people of the various Communities in the region. According to him, one of their major keys is "propaganda" to cause troubles and make the people to fight amongst themselves.

Chief Amurun said people no longer take issues of environment serious. He commended ERA for educating and sensitizing the people of the region against the illegal and criminal activities of the IOC's in the Niger Delta. Chief Amurun also enjoined the people especially their leaders not to collude with the government and oil companies loot their people.

Dr. (Mrs.) Misan Rupee and Mr. Jonah Gbemre also bear their minds on the topic as they said the Federal Government of Nigeria should be blamed for the negligence, criminal activities of the IOC's for failing to properly regulate their activities with well enacted laws to prevent environmental fraud.
